The designers’ aim was to widen the scope of the bed in terms of both its function & its use. The shell-like, comfortably upholstered headboard is an invitation to read, to watch TV or even write. The impression of continuity between headboard & base confers great visual lightness, even in the case of the version with the high head- board. Desdémone beautifully reflects the trend for a variety of uses, unencumbe- red by objects. In a way, the bed becomes the centre of the universe.
