Description

We were commisioned to design a mosque in a housing cluster that needed major renovation, to increase the capacity and to accommodate a few additional functions. The idea is based on the need to have a sustainable, environmentally friendly building, and a humble appearance to create synergies with the surrounding existing trees. The main praying area is located on the top of a multipurpose space on the ground level. The upper floor facade uses Islamic-pattern ventilation block, not only to symbolise the mosque, but also to allow air circulation and natural lighting to penetrate into the room, while the space below is open to accommodate more flexible community activities.
