The architect divided the design into 3 layers. In the entrance area, guest are welcomed with a symbol of “Gunungan” which in wayang represent “The World”. In The first layer, guest can see Indonesia’s national hero who come from different backgrounds, religions, races, united to fight for Indonesia’s independence. A triangular laser cut of different pattern of batik from various region from Indonesia. The triangle itself was inspired from “Pucuk Rebung”, a sacred symbol in Padang Culture. The Second Layer from a stack of gunungan combine with hand-made Songket Padang. These different culture was combine into 1 harmonious artwork to show the guest that although Indonesians come from different cultures, They blend harmoniously and strongly among each other to become one nation, Indonesia. That is why in the third layer, The ceiling form an Indonesia Archipelago with the background of Handmade rattan, weaved to form a pattern of Batik Parang Kencana. The pillars were painted with Sulawesi’s Toraja carvings. It was chosen because it represents Indonesia culture in few last World exhibiton for Indonesia’s tourism. The aim for this project is to de-escalate the political and racial tension which is happening in Indonesia and hopefully to remind all of us that we are one, Indonesia. The use of traditional pattern combined with laser-cutting technology, lighting creating a more contemporary look, as well as to show that culture preservation and technological advancement can takes place simultaneously.As the old says One must not forget who and where you come from.
