Description
LI House is a thorough renovation of a 30-year-old house. The clients are a pair of grandparents whose children have moved to their own homes, giving them an opportunity for the long-overdue renovation of the old house. The renovation's immediate urgency was to replace the existing wooden roof structure, which had fallen victim to termites. This restructuring allowed for a change in the roof's overall shape. The overly complicated form of the existing roof is transformed into one that's much simpler. Apart from the modernization of the house's look, another focus was to give it a more tropical feel, in line with the owners' affection for open spaces & potted plants. The main entrance is transformed into a large terrace sheltered by the new roof's large overhang, creating a semi-outdoor space for hang-outs & small gatherings when the children & grandchildren come to visit. A secondary skin is added to the West-facing front facade to provide shades to the upper bedrooms, while the house's interior is completely refurbished to create a more modern feel.
