Description
The homeowner engaged Studio Dinding for renovation of a typical developer built double storey house in Pontianak. One of the main brief from the homeowner is to create a more luxury living space, so the design team removed part of the slab to create double height living area, allowing a more breathable, brighter and spacious feel of the common areas. While at the same time, it creates an interconnection feeling and visual between ground and first floor. The designer has also successfully created a more flexible area by removing solid walls in the main living and dining space. As one of common denominator that we found in a developer house is too much solid walls are used, resulting in isolated space or less flexible area within a house. The redesign takes it cues to cater to client’s hobbies to create reading corner that wraps around the ceiling, becoming the most prominent feature in the space. Double height glass walls, full-height precast concrete wall and natural light that penetrate into the space create a playful dialogue between art, nature and architecture. To maximize the view and space of existing long and narrow master bedroom space, glass walls were used to build visual connection between main bedroom space and walk in wardrobe, and at the same time to break the sense of the monotony long and narrow master suite. Office space connected to the main bedroom area was designed to have a huge opening toward the double height living area, creating a visual connection between the private and social space. It also allows natural sunlight penetrate to the space.
